I was going through my stuff in storage and she was excited to find these today. I held onto a few toys all these years for my future little girl, and here she is now all excited to play with them. So we played with Barbie dolls together today for the first time.
Watching you is all that I can do. I am taking it all in.
These are the precious moments I will hold onto forever.
She is ALWAYS getting my shoes out and wearing them around the house.
She is a mini me if there ever was one.
I love how she modeled them for me.
Who needs dress up clothes and shoes when you've got mommy's closet to play in?
Like them? They are Cole Haan Women's Harlow Open Toe Pump
Matching bedtime clothes to wear with your baby doll is super fun!!
Anna, Elsa, and Olaf from Disney Frozen are some of her favorite characters right now.
She loves anything with them on it.
I love these matching night gowns for her and her baby doll, and the bedtime slippers are super cute!
We use Abeka Academy DVD's for our homeschool curriculum.
Each of our boys have their own office to do their home school work in.
In their office, they each have: a tv, a DVD player, a file cabinet, and a 10 drawer cart.
They love having their own office.
We use a 10 drawer cart, also known as the "workbox system" to move through their lessons each day. Before pressing play on the DVD, they pull the drawer out for their class, and all of their materials for that class are brought to their desk and put inside of their desks until they are needed.
At the end of each school day, any graded work such as reports, projects, quizzes, and tests are filed in a hanging file folder in their file cabinet.
Another thing I do to prepare for the school year is get our daily file folders ready to use. It takes a little extra time on the front end, but in the long run has been one of the most useful systems I have implemented in our home school.
To do this you will need, 170 hanging file folders per child.
Having everything sorted out in advance, helps us stay on track.
Everything is organized in advance, and I LOVE IT!!
We also travel quite a bit, so this helps me when I need to pack for our travels.
When we travel, each of our boys use a laptop with a DVD player, and a pair of headphones to work through their lessons. Of the two options, both of our boys prefer using the tv with a DVD player to view their lessons. I like it better this way too, because I can hear what the video teacher is saying so it makes it easier for me to monitor their participation with the video class.
I enjoy getting these boxes each season. Each box is only $6.98, and they are mailed out four times a year. I have found that I definitely get my money's worth from each box. My favorite product this month was definitely the hair clips!!
Talen and I love us some pico with cucumber. We eat it mostly with tortilla chips. We put it on salads, tacos, nachos, and several other Mexican style dishes.
T's words made my heart smile today! I love how T's school work is encouraging him to think about his character and his need for God's help. As I write this post, I am reminded of the words of Isaiah 54:13, which say, "And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children." I often remind myself of this scripture as this is God's instruction to me as a mom and is my heart's desire for my children. One of the major reasons I have chosen to homeschool is to make sure they are being taught of the Lord.
I love trying new recipes and I found this one on Pinterest. It has a delicious Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing which really makes the salad. This salad turned out so pretty and it was delicious too! We all loved it! We were able to eat on this for a couple of meals. The recipe I found didn't specify how to roast the chicken so I made a spicy seasoning rub to put on the chicken before I roasted it. The spice rub made the chicken really spicy but our family thought the flavors blended well with the Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing on the salad. My boys gave it 5 STARS!
First full day on the new Family Time! I am so liking our new boat! She is FAST, has plenty of space, and rides so smoothly! We enjoyed some boat riding, spanish fishing, and then visited Shark Island to collect some sea shells. We did a little more fishing and then we went to dinner at Ruddy Duck Tavern in Morehead City and finished off with some ice cream for desert at the Morehead City Gulf Docks.
Our latest new hobby! We purchased two Ocean Kayaks today. We bought one at West Marine in Morehead City and we bought the other at Neuse Sport Shop in Cedar Point. The one at West Marine was ALOT cheaper for the same thing but they only had one and we needed at least two. Last year the boys rented kayaks at Swansboro Paddle Boarding and Kayaking, and ever since Stephen has went on about us buying our own. Talen has been watching lots of videos and researching on the best one to set up for fishing and the Ocean Kayak is the one he decided on. I love that it has the pedal drive system. I liked the idea of having the kayaks too because it is really quite nice and peaceful to pedal around in the sound and really good exercise too!
My husband ordered a date night box subscription from Amazon for us to enjoy some date nights at home. This was the first datebox we received. The theme was Colorful Conversations. The box included: a candle, some sweet Lucky Ducks candy, chocolate covered sunflower seeds, and a game called Analyze Me. It also has a card where you get a specific music playlist to put on while you play the game and enjoy time together. It was a fun time and the candies were really yummy! I am looking forward to our next datebox night.
Watching her gave me this thought today, "If we don't plug into the right source, there is no power. Staying plugged into the Word of God, being led by His Holy Spirit, and obeying His word, is what brings true, lasting strength and power in our lives."
Stephen has had this electric scooter for about a year and it has been a great buy! Talen didn't really want one when we got Stephen's for him but after trying out Stephen's, he changed his mind, so we bought another one this year to give to Talen for his birthday. I may have to get myself one too so I can ride around on the beach sidewalks and our neighborhood with them.
I started reading a book several days ago called Not I But Christ by Corrie ten Boom. In the first few pages were these words. I read them aloud to someone with me and I could hardly get them out. It's like someone took the words out of my heart and put them on paper. I guess you could say it was exactly what I needed at that moment. From that point on it changed my whole countenance and day for the better. I have looked back at these words so many times since I first read them. Maybe it was just meant for me, but I keep thinking about them, so maybe someone else needs this too.
We enjoyed Daddy's homemade chicken pot pies for dinner tonight. The filling is not real thick, but more soup-like, yet it wasn't too soupy and had a good consistency. Our family thought it was really good with the puff pastry topping. Our recipe will make four chicken pot pies using the 6 inch Round Corningware Dishes (24 oz). There was a little bit of the filling left to make a smaller one for the baby too!
The Winter Walmart Beauty box this month did not disappoint! I love getting the boxes like these where I am most likely going to use all of the products I receive. It was hard to make my decision this month, but the one I am most excited to try is the Hard Candy Setting Spray.
